Getting "Screen Mirroring" Error on iPhone
Are you seeing a "Screen Mirroring" or a "This video is playing on an external display" error when playing back the footage you just recorded? Don't sweat! This is normal and we'll explain how to go around this!
Software limitations
Similar to how the iPhone has a software limitation when shooting 4K videos with the camera app, it has another strange limitation when playing back videos on your iPhone's camera roll. The iPhone is thinking that it's plugged into some monitor or big TV and decides it won't show on the iPhone without giving an option, how Annoying!
How do we solve this?
-
Using the on/off switch
Simply switch off the Vlogmate using the On/Off slider and it will turn itself off so the iPhone won't detect another screen and you'll be able to review your footage. Once you're ready to record again, flick the slider back to on and you're good to go!
-
Taking it off the back and viewing it together
A personal favourite, I will take the screen off the back of my iPhone and sit it next to my phone so I can review the footage on the VlogMate whilst using my iPhone to control the playback and volume. Because the VlogMate is magnetic, it's super easy to snap back on and continue filming.

Using Blackmagic Camera App (or an alternative)
This must have app is a gamechanger. You can record in all your favourite formats, lag-free and when you go playback your footage, you won't experience any errors and it will play back on both the screen and the iPhone, making it super convenient. PLUS you can utilise pro-level shooting with this app and then import straight into your camera roll.
